Granite composite is stone dust in resin: matte, quieter, better at hiding scratches and water spots, offered in blacks, grays, and browns, and lighter to install - but extreme thermal shock can hurt the resin, and hard water leaves visible film on dark matte bowls, a real consideration in much of Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana. Neither is simply better; choose by color, look, and how gently your household treats a sink.
How often does granite really need to be resealed?
Let the stone tell you instead of the calendar: drip a little water on the busiest spots and wait 15-20 minutes. If it beads, the sealer is fine; if it soaks in and darkens the stone, reseal. For most kitchen granite that works out to roughly once a year, but dense stones can go two or three years and porous ones may need it more often. The test takes two minutes and costs nothing.
