A typical kitchen exposes 20-35 linear feet of edge, so going premium everywhere usually adds a few hundred dollars - real money, but small next to the slab itself, and you can cut it further by upgrading only the island.

More than most people budget for. As of mid-2026 fabricator pricing, a mitered edge (the technique behind waterfall sides and chunky-looking tops) adds roughly $30-$80 per linear foot over a standard eased edge, waterfall corners run about $150-$300 or more each, and a full waterfall island typically adds $1,000-$3,000 once you count the extra vertical stone and the precision 45-degree cutting and polishing. Porcelain miters cost another 20-30 percent on top because of specialized tooling. It is a legitimate look — the vertical panel also protects island cabinetry from scuffs — but it competes directly with simply upgrading the material itself.

A seam you can find with a fingernail is normal; a seam you can spot from across the room is a workmanship conversation. Reasonable expectations: roughly 1/16 inch wide, flush to about credit-card thickness, color-matched epoxy, placed over supports. Inspect seams, overhangs, and cutouts while the installers are still in your kitchen — adjustments are easy before the adhesive sets and awkward afterward — and photograph anything that concerns you the same day so it lands on the punch list in writing.
