Template day in Arlington Heights
About ten miles northeast by I-90 and Arlington Heights Rd. This is the town where template day carries the most decisions, because the projects here are the most ambitious of the twelve — waterfall ends, full-height backsplashes, and islands with real seating.
What an Arlington Heights floor plan does to the appointment
Overhang is the decision people most often defer and most often regret. How far your island top can carry stools before it needs brackets or legs is measured at template, and it is a structural answer, not a preference.
What the appointment costs
Nothing. The in-home template is free in Arlington Heights and it commits you to nothing — the template costs nothing and commits you to nothing. It is how the range below turns into one number. The installed ranges for a Arlington Heights kitchen are on the Arlington Heights countertops page, and the number we will actually put our name on comes out of the appointment itself.

Arlington Heights questions
How far is your shop from Arlington Heights?
About 9.8 miles as the crow flies — 10 miles northeast of the shop via I-90 and Arlington Heights Rd; roughly 20-25 minutes. That matters for templating more than for anything else we do, because the template is the appointment where we come to you, and a short run means a tight arrival window rather than a vague morning.
How much overhang do I need for island seating, and will my countertop support it?
Plan 24 inches of width per seat, with knee depth tied to height: 18 inches deep at a 30-inch table, 15 inches at a 36-inch counter, and 12 inches at a 42-inch bar. Most stone and quartz tops can cantilever only about 10-12 inches unsupported, so a comfortable seating overhang usually needs steel brackets, corbels, or a thicker top - confirm the limit with your fabricator before ordering. Leave 32-44 inches behind the stools depending on whether people walk past.
What actually happens on template day, and what do I need to have ready?
A technician spends 30-90 minutes making a laser or physical template of your cabinet runs, marking cutouts, overhangs, and seam locations. Before they arrive you need: cabinets fully installed, level, and anchored; old tops handled per your contract; and the sink, faucet, and cooktop physically on site so cutouts can be traced. If the site is not ready, the appointment reschedules and the project slips — the shop’s production queue behind templating is the real clock, and rejoining it typically costs 3-7 days.
